Raising the Bar on Data Security: Rippl Achieves HITRUST i1 Certification

By Susan Ray, Chief Operating Officer, Rippl

At Rippl, protecting sensitive information is just as critical as delivering expert, comprehensive care for people living with dementia and their caregivers. In today’s environment, cybersecurity threats evolve daily, and safeguarding data demands more than good intentions — it requires proven, independently verified systems and practices.

That’s why I’m proud to share that Rippl has earned the HITRUST i1 Certification — a rigorous, threat-adaptive cybersecurity validation recognized across the healthcare industry. This achievement reflects our commitment to applying advanced technology, disciplined processes, and continuous monitoring to protect the information entrusted to us.

What Makes HITRUST i1 Important

The HITRUST i1 certification is designed to address the realities of today’s cybersecurity landscape. It requires organizations to meet 182 curated security controls across 19 critical domains — from access management and network protection to encryption and incident response. These controls are updated quarterly to counter emerging risks like ransomware, phishing, and other sophisticated cyberattacks.

Certification is not a one-time audit; it is an intensive evaluation of the security measures we have implemented across our infrastructure, systems, and workflows. Achieving HITRUST i1 confirms that Rippl’s security posture meets a high, industry-recognized benchmark for protecting personal health information.

Technology and Processes That Deliver Security

Earning HITRUST i1 certification is the result of strategic investments in our technology ecosystem and operational discipline, including:

  • Secure, cloud-based infrastructure with built-in redundancy and resilience.

  • Advanced encryption for data at rest and in transit, ensuring information remains private at every stage.

  • Robust identity and access management to limit system access to authorized personnel only.

  • Continuous monitoring and threat detection to identify and respond to suspicious activity in real time.

  • Regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to proactively address potential weaknesses before they can be exploited.

These safeguards are not static. Our systems and processes are reviewed, tested, and improved on an ongoing basis to keep pace with evolving threats.

Looking Ahead

While the HITRUST i1 certification is a major milestone, it’s also a foundation for what comes next. The framework positions Rippl to pursue the more comprehensive HITRUST r2 certification in the future and ensures that our security measures adapt alongside the rapidly changing cyber threat environment.

Every day, our mission is to enable more good days for people living with dementia and those who care for them. Achieving HITRUST i1 certification is one more way we deliver on that mission — by safeguarding the sensitive information that makes our work possible.
